Persistent floods in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria, continue to take its toll on suburbs of Awka metropolis, as individuals resort to self-help in tackling erosion menace.
At Ifite Awka, Awka metropolis, erosion has sacked some residents, while others are stranded with nowhere to relocate, calling for urgent government intervention.
Residents say a survey of the area by the State Government is yet to yield results, as an individual has now embarked on controlling the erosion.
For Victor Chukwumemeka and Joy Uzochukwu, who braved the risk of walking through the gully, they told AIT that there is no shorter route, lamenting the challenges residents go through.
They want the Anambra State Government to mobilize its workforce to complement the effort of the individual already working on the erosion site.
On the other side of the gully, nine out of thirty-three occupants who have nowhere to relocate are still living and sleeping in the danger zone.
