Following the temporary closure of the Catholic institution in Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, North-Central Nigeria over security concerns, students of St. Winifred’s College, are to resume academic activities in other Catholic schools across the Gboko Diocese on Friday, October 23.
The school management in a statement said the relocation is a temporary arrangement pending further decisions by the Church on the future of the institution.
Under the arrangement, students in Basic Seven and Senior Secondary Two will be transferred to Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, while those in Basic Eight and Nine will resume at St. Mary’s Girls’ Secondary School, Adikpo.
Senior Secondary One students will attend Our Lady of Apostles Girls’ Secondary School, Vandeikya, while Senior Secondary Three students will be relocated to Notre Dame Secondary School, Mkar.
The management says some teaching and non-teaching staff members have also been assigned to the receiving schools to support learning and provide guidance to the students.
The development follows a pastoral letter and decree by the Catholic Bishop of Gboko Diocese ordering the temporary closure of Catholic institutions and the withdrawal of pastoral agents from Ihugh.

The school management has expressed regret over the inconvenience and uncertainty caused by the emergency arrangement, while assuring parents and guardians that communication channels will be established to keep them informed.
It says the temporary placement is intended to ensure continuity in the education of the affected students while the Church considers the future of the school, particularly in view of security concerns around its location.
The management has appealed for the patience and understanding of parents, guardians and other stakeholders as the students prepare to resume at their respective schools on Friday, October 23, 2026.
