The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says former Minister of Power and Steel, Liyel Imoke, has testified that the Federal Executive Council did not approve the memo for the award of the six-billion-dollar Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited.

The EFCC disclosed this in a statement following proceedings at the FCT High Court in Abuja, where Imoke appeared as the sixth prosecution witness in the trial of former minister Olu Agunloye.

Imoke told the court that FEC directed Agunloye to withdraw the memo and invite more proposals.

Agunloye is facing a seven-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and fraudulent contract award.

Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie adjourned the case until November 2, 4, 9 and 11, 2026, for continuation of trial.
