The Kaduna State Government has called for responsible mining practices, improved regulation, and increased investment to unlock Nigeria’s mineral resources for economic development.
Governor Uba Sani made the call at the fifth Annual International Conference of the Nigerian Society of Economic Geologists in Kaduna.
Nigeria’s solid minerals sector is widely seen as an important avenue for economic diversification, industrial development, and job creation.
Yet possessing mineral deposits does not automatically translate into prosperity.
Discovering, evaluating, and developing these resources requires reliable geological data, modern exploration technologies, credible investment, and effective regulation.
These issues formed the focus of the fifth Annual International Conference of the Nigerian Society of Economic Geologists in Kaduna, themed “Unlocking the Earth’s Mineral Potential: Innovation and Discovery for Future Resources,” which seeks to connect scientific discoveries with practical strategies for developing Nigeria’s mineral resources.
Experts stressed the importance of artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and advanced geophysical methods in improving mineral exploration and reducing investment risks.
Declaring the conference open, Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, said responsible mining, stronger regulation, credible investment and local processing are key to unlocking mineral wealth, creating jobs and protecting host communities.
The conference maintained that developing the country’s minerals involves more than discovery and extraction; it requires building an industry that delivers enduring prosperity to society.
