Dare devil armed robbers Thursday killed a police officer and injured two others as they engaged a police patrol team in a shootout in a bid to escape a robber scene.
The robbers are said to have snatched a bag from a man who withdrew an undisclosed amount from a nearby commercial bank at Falomo area of Lagos.
The Public Relations officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana who confirmed the incident to AIT said the suspected armed robbers operating on a motorcycle snatched the bag containing a laptop believing it contained money as the man stepped out of a commercial bank near Falomo bridge.
The victim then raised alarm and attracted the attention of a nearby police patrol van. The policemen then engaged the suspects leading to the death of one of the officers and injuring two passers-by.
Bala Elkana says the police are on the trail of the fleeing suspected armed robbers.
