The Ebonyi State government is set to facilitate processes for the release of 31 underaged persons arrested who have been on remand for their alleged involvements in the Effium communal crisis which claimed scores of lives.
Governor Dave Umahi disclosed this while presiding over the weekly State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki.
He said government’s action is part of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace to the crisis-hit community.
Intra communal crisis broke out between the Ezza Effium clan and their neighbours, the Effium on January 22, throwing the once peaceful agrarian community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area into a theatre of violence
Security operatives have arrested several suspected warlords from the two feuding clans including 31 persons said to be minors who are currently being detained at the Nigeria Correctional Service and the Remand Home, Ugwuechara, both in Abakaliki, the State capital.
