The current crisis rocking the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in South-South Nigeria has worsened with the defection of one of the party’s leaders, Bishop Samuel Akpan to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP along with other big wigs and their over 20,000 supporters.

While being received by the leadership of the PDP in the state, Bishop Akpan, who left PDP in 2015, said he and other former APC stalwarts decided to return to the PDP because it is the only party that Akwa Ibom State people know and trust.

While commending Governor Udom Emmanuel for his enduring legacies, Akpan stated that all truthful politicians in the state know that no other party could win elections at all levels in the state apart from the PDP as the party is well structured and organized.

State PDP chairman, Aniekan Akpan who received Bishop Akpan and others commended them for realising the truth and described them as patriots. He assured them of full integration with all the rights and privileges of full members accorded them.

Until his defection from the PDP to APC in 2015, Akpan was one of the founding members of the PDP in the state and a former governorship aspirant.

Recall that the former APC National Secretary in the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee, Senator John Akpanudoedehe defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP last month where he emerged as the governorship candidate for the 2023 election.
