A team from the European Union EU, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Myele Kyari has embarked on a fact finding mission to ascertain the effectiveness of the Joint Task Force JTF, Operation Delta Safe in tackling crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking to journalists at an illegal refining camp destroyed by the JTF in Ahoada West, Rivers State, Myele Kyari expressed hope that with concerted and sustained efforts,
oil theft and pipeline vandalism would become a thing of the past.

Disturbed by the drastic decline in Nigeria’s oil production, which has been struggling to meet up with its OPEC production quota, a high-powered team from the European Union arrived the Port Harcourt international Airport, Rivers State to ascertain the true situation of things and how to be of assistance.

The nine man EU delegation, led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Myele Kyari were taken by the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe ,to one of the destroyed illegal bunkering camps at Ahoada West Council Area, to demonstrate the Federal Government’s resolve in ending crude oil theft.

Leader of the nine member EU delegation, Matthew Baldwin at the end of inspection, appreciated the effort made to address illegal bunkering, adding that the EU will provide support in tackling the problem.

The drop in Nigeria’s oil production has reduced the needed foreign exchange and has negatively affected the country’s economy.
