Government at all levels have been admonished to create enabling platform for people to participate in conserving natural environmental resources.

Speaking during an awareness campaign to commemorate year 2022 international day for the conservation of the mangrove ecosystem, some environmentalists in Warri, the commercial hub of Delta state, decried the gradual disappearance of the country’s mangrove forests and the urgent need to save the collapsing ecosystem.

The international day for the conservation of the mangrove ecosystem is observed annually on July 26.

The day was designated by the United Nations Educational and Scientific Cultural Organization, UNESCO, to raise awareness on the crucial role of the mangrove ecosystem.

In Warri, Delta state, the day was commemorated with a 10 kilometer fun walk aimed at promoting a healthy global ecosystem as well as conserving natural environmental resources.

These environmental experts, however expressed worries that Nigeria’s mangrove ecosystem was gradually disappearing, hence the need for government at all levels to be more proactive in engaging with policies that will save the mangrove forests.
