The Edo State Government has denied media reports that the Islamic State- West Africa Province, ISWAP, carried out an attack on Ibillo-Igarra Road Junction and burnt a security patrol vehicle on September 22, 2022.

The State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare in a statement, attributed the attack to fleeing bandits.

He said a thorough investigation by security outfits involving the Police, Nigerian Army, Edo State Vigilante Network and Nigeria Civil Defence Corp showed no evidence of ISWAP or its operatives in Edo State.

Nehikhare assured that the State Government will continue to provide support to the Security Agencies to tackle crime and criminality and also enhance patrols of the State’s borders to make Edo uncomfortable for the decimated bandits.

He restated the Government’s commitment to the safety of lives and property and to the sustenance of a safe environment for citizens to go about their lawful businesses.
