The federal government has unveiled COP 27 National logo which will distinctively project the country at the climate change treaty while representing Nigeria’s alignment with the ideals and objectives of the 27th global event.

Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi while addressing newsmen in Abuja said Nigeria will key into Africa’s agenda items for support partnerships that will assist the country achieve it’s emission reduction target.

This logo, according to the minister, will distinctively project Nigeria and it’s national interest at the COP while also aligning with west Africa’s thematic issues including doubling adaptation finance by 2025 and closing the climate financing gap.

In response to the outcome of COP 26, Nigeria has developed it’s energy transition plan, launched emission trading scheme and adopted a national climate change act which gives legal backing to the 2060 net zero ambition.

The hosting of COP 27 in the city of Sharm El-Sheik this year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations framework convention on climate change.

Recall that Nigeria and indeed Africa contribute only about 3% of green house gas emissions, the continent remains the worst hit by climate change due to limited adaptative capacity to cope with the Impact evident in extreme weather events such as increased temperature levels, irregular rainfall pattern, flooding, drought and desertification.
