Suspected Gunmen have attacked operatives of the State run local security outfit, code named “Ebubeagu”, at a checkpoint in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State Capital with one of them feared dead.
The attack comes less than a week after another operative of the outfit was killed by hoodlums, in Ezza North Local Government Area of the State.
An eyewitness told ait.live that the gunmen operating in motorcycles struck at a road block manned by the Ebubagu operatives, along the busy Hausa Quarters axis of the Abakaliki-Afikpo Expressway.

“The men of the security outfit had around 8pm impounded the motorcycle of a young man, at the checkpoint, apparently for riding beyond the curfew time”.
” While engaging the owner of the motorcycle on altercation over settlement, a group of boys with two motorcycles stormed the area and opened fire on the men of Ebebuagu as many of them scampered for safety”,
“One of the Ebubeagu men was hit in the stomach”, the source says.
Police in Abakaliki are yet to react to the development, but confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of Ebubuagu in the State, Friday Ujor said that more security operatives will be deploy to the place.
