The Supreme Court has adjourned all governorship appeals pending before it till Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

The adjournment was announced by the Court Registrar after almost one hour of recess by the 7-member panel of justices led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammad.

The Court had abruptly stood down proceedings after one of the seven justices hearing the appeal in the 2019 Kano State Governorship election suddenly took ill while the court was in session.

The incident happened shortly after counsel for Abbah Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adeboyega Awomolo adopted his brief and urged the court to allow the appeal.

The CJN announced that the court will have to abruptly rise having noticed that Justice Olukayide Ariwoola suddenly took ill.

The CJN led other six justices out of the Court which was filled to capacity to enable them attend to their ailing colleague.

The lawyers and parties to the matters before the court including about 30 Senior Advocates of Nigeria are waiting for the return of the panel to continue with the proceedings when the announcement of the adjournment was made.
