Early Warning and Early Response Review Meeting in Katsina State

Security experts in Katsina State, North-West Nigeria say attacks witnessed in the 13 frontline Local Government Areas have reduced drastically to about 80% in recent times with most dreaded roads now free for motorists.

State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Salisu Rabo and other stakeholders stated this at the two-day Early Warning and Early Response review meeting for the last quarter of 2022.

The meeting was organised by the Interfaith Mediation Centre, IMC in collaboration with the Mercy Corps under the community initiatives to promote peace.

It brought together Community Peace Observers, CPOs and the Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council, CMMRC in the affected local government areas especially with the 2023 general elections at hand.

The Senior Programmes Manager of the Interfaith Mediation Centre, Charles Ndukwe said, the organisation is happy to hear the news of the reduction in attacks as, it means the structures put in place are working as planned.

A CPOs member, Umar Isyaku attested to the drastic reduction in the attacks and added that some roads which were under serious threats in the past have become free.

As the 2023 general elections draw closer, the Interfaith Mediation Centre has urged all its structures which include the CPOs and the CMMRC to redouble efforts to sustain the gain recorded so far in the reduction of conflicts among communities.
