There was jubilations among the Palace chiefs at the Obong of Calabar Palace, as the Supreme Court judgement read by Justice Amina Ahgid disqualified the suit by Etubom Anthony Ani, challenging the selection process of the obong of Calabar Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V.
The Etuboms who decked in their traditional attires were seen dancing and singing over the Apex Court Ruling this Friday.
Addressing journalists at the Adiabo Country home of the Obong, the Chairman of Etubom traditional council in the Palace, Etubom Bassey Duke, noted that though they are yet to get full brief of the court ruling,The Obong of Calabar remain in the office and no one can remove him using the backdoor.

Etubom called on all Efik Sons and Daughters to be calm and peaceful as their revered king is full of life.
Etubom Anthony Ani, and others in Suit No. HC/102/2008, filed by his lead counsel, Joe Agi, SAN, had sued the Obong of Calabar Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V and others in their capacities as members of the Etuboms’ Traditional Council for jettisoning the screening process of the Western Calabar under the then Chairman, Etubom Abasi-Otu, now the Obong of Calabar.
With the current judgement, this will be the fourth time the Obong had to step down for another selection exercise following different court ruling.
