The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Samuel Ortom as the duly elected Governor of Benue State.

The Court in its unanimous decision delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta dismissed the appeal instituted by the All Progressives Congress, APC and its candidate, Emmanuel Jim for lacking in merit.

The appellant was challenging the 2019 governorship election in Benue State which brought Governor Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP back to power.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in March 2019 declared Ortom winner of the gubernatorial polls.

The election was first declared inconclusive by INEC due to the margin between the cancelled votes of 121,019 and the 81,554 votes polled by Ortom and Jime.

In the appeal from Adamawa State, the Supreme Court also affirmed the election of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP.

Justice Dattijo Mohammed, who read the lead judgment in the appeal held that the appellants failed to prove their case.

Fintiri was said to have polled 376,552 votes to defeat Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress who got 336,386 votes
