The Akwa Ibom State government has banned private laboratories in the state from conducting COVID 19 tests using Rapid Test Kits.
The Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem made the government’s position known in a chat with newsmen in Uyo, the state capital.
As new developments emerge concerning the use of other methods for COVID 19 tests, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the State COVID 19 Incident Management Committee, Emmanuel Ekuwem said, only the Polymerase Chain Reaction, PCR-based kits test would be accepted in the state.

Ekuwem added that any private laboratory wishing to conduct COVID 19 tests would have to be authorised.
The SSG also said, churches in the state are mandated to set up their own intra- church COVID 19 monitoring committee in each parish or assembly, to enforce the adherence to all COVID 19 health protocols.
