The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU has frowned at the terrible conditions of the state universities in the country stating that if not for the intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, these State Universities would be glorified secondary schools.
Zonal Coordinator Ade Adejumo disclosed this in the wake of an impending strike by the local union in Gombe state over the conditions of funding and poor infrastructure in Gombe State University.
On his part the Gombe state Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya acknowledge the poor conditions of the University but added that the 2021 state budget would improve the conditions.

With the Nigerian government and the Academic staff union of Universities resolving their issues, the attention shifts to the conditions of state universities.
That formed the basis of thought from the delegation of the ASUU that says the Gombe state University remains underfunded
The state government says it would look into the issues that union put out with a view to resolving them
This is the first time a zonal council of a union is meeting with the state government to resolve lingering issues as the local ASUU had concluded plans to go on indefinite industrial action.
