The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Calabar chapter, has called for the unconditional release of their colleague, Associate Professor David Ugwu who has been in captivity since February 14, 2020.
Professor Ugwu was abducted at his residence along Atimbo in Calabar Municipality Area Council one year ago by gunmen who took him away to an unknown destination.
Despite all efforts and reports to security agencies, Ugwu has remained in the hands of his abductors since then, fuelling speculation that he may have died in kidnappers den.

But speaking with reporters shortly after the union Special Congress in Unical on Monday, Chairman of UNICAL Branch of ASUU, Comrade Edor John, asked that security operatives furnish the union with information on whether Ugwu is still alive or dead.
The Chairman said ASUU will continue to request from the security operatives on the where about of their member until the Union gets useful information wellbeing of Professor Ugwu.
