KADUNA

The Kaduna State government has directed the suspension of all weekly markets in five local government areas of the state with immediate effect as part of measures to address the issue of banditry in the state.

The affected local government areas are Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Giwa, Chikun, and Kajuru.

In a statement signed by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the decision was taken after a thorough review of the security situation and recommendations by security agencies.

The state government also banned the selling of petrol in jerrycans within and outside premises of petrol stations in the five local government areas.

According to the statement, security personnel have been directed to ensure compliance with these directives.

While the government has enjoined citizens to cooperate with the directives, it said its security operation room remains open to receiving useful information that will help in addressing security challenges in the state.
