Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has confirmed that forty people were abducted by suspected bandits at Mutunji Community in Maru Local Government Area of the State.
This is contrary to over a hundred people earlier reported.
The governor confirmed this to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, shortly after inspecting the training of two thousand, six hundred and forty-four community protection guards, (CPG), recruited by his administration.
They are to assist security agents in fighting the bandits in their communities.
The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, restated his administration’s commitment to the fight against banditry and to restore peace and stability across the state.

The governor was visibly happy after inspecting the training of the operatives who are two thousand, six hundred and forty-four community protection guards, (CPG).
He said he was delighted to see their morale, which showed that they were ready and committed to working with security personnel, to protect their communities against the bandits who are unleashing terror on innocent people.
On the bandit’s attack and abduction of people at Mutunji community last Friday, Governor Lawal confirmed that forty people were abducted, and that the government is making efforts to rescue the victims unhurt.
The governor also said that an investigation is ongoing, to unravel the circumstances that led to the attack, and assured that his administration will get to the root of the situation, as well as ensure the protection of the lives and property of the citizens.
