At least seven people have been reported killed, while one was abducted in a separate attack by bandits in Dansadau and Maru Towns, in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.

Eyewitness accounts says the bandits stormed Maru town at about 8 p.m. local time, killing one person and abducting another, while at Dansadau, they invaded the town at 2:00 p.m. in broad daylight on Tuesday, and started shooting sporadically, killing no fewer than six persons.

The bandits were also said to have come on motorcycles in large numbers to attack the people at the Dansadau Motor Park and market, where they left four people with gunshot wounds.

An eyewitness said, “When we saw the bandits coming, we ran to save our lives, but unfortunately, six of our people got killed, while four others sustained gunshot wounds, and are now receiving treatment.”

The Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASP Yazid Abubakar, has confirmed the incident.

He said the bandits attempted to attack the palace of the Emir of Maru but were repelled by police operatives.

One person was said to have been killed in the course of the gun duel with the suspected criminals.

The police spokesperson, however, claimed that nothing happened at Dansadau.
