The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has conducted a public hearing on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (Domestication) Bill 2020.
Speaking at the hearing which was attended by representatives of several stakeholder bodies in Yenagoa, the state capital, the sponsor of the bill and member representing Ekeremor State Constituency I, Tarri Porri described the legislation as a timely response to the unfortunate spike of violence in the society, most of which are targeted against the females.
The VAPP Domestication Bill 2020 which is an improvement on existing laws in the State, would criminalise spousal battery, intimidation and stalking among other offences, when passed into law.
