A total of 17 bodies have been recovered at Igama community in Okpokwu Local Government Area, following the gruesome attack by yet-to-be-identified gunmen last Sunday.
Giving an update on the incident, the Okpokwu Local Government Chairman, Amina Audu, said an additional six corpses were recovered on Monday, adding that people are still searching for missing persons.
It was earlier reported that 11 bodies had been found, but according to the council chairman, the death toll has risen, following the fresh recovery.
Many people have been reportedly displaced, after the suspected herders attacked the Igama community, in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
“It was an unprovoked attack; the killers also stormed Effeche, a neighbouring community, but no life was lost there, ” she added.
The chairman further said, thousands of people have been displaced, and are taking refuge in several places in the area.

Yet to be identified assailants had invaded the Igama community of Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Sunday,
attacking several homes and displacing thousands, which have further compounded the humanitarian crisis in the state.
