Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has inaugurated a series of milestone infrastructure projects at the High Court Complex in Makurdi to mark the commencement of the 2026/2027 Legal Year.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to judicial autonomy, Governor Alia noted that granting financial independence to the third arm of government has yielded tangible development, though he also cautioned against court practices that hamper State resources.

In Makurdi, key projects including a newly built Judicial Service Commission complex, a remodeled High Court of Justice, a modern High Court Clinic, and newly asphalted internal roads have been officially inaugurated.

Governor Hyacinth Alia explained that his administration’s strict enforcement of judicial autonomy empowered the leadership under the Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese to execute projects tailored to the immediate needs of the bench.

To strengthen policy implementation, the Governor highlighted key legislative interventions, including the state’s amended Area Court law, the Electricity Commission law, and the State Security Fund law.

Governor Alia however raised concern over what he termed” arbitrary garnishee orders” issued against the state government and sought for a more collaborative approach.

Responding, Chief Judge Justice Maurice Ikpambese addressed systemic challenges in justice delivery, acknowledging public frustration over delayed trials, procedural bottlenecks, and litigation costs.

He urged the bench to embrace internal reform.

As the 2026/2027 Legal Year begins, both the Executive and Judicial arms agreed on a shared commitment to deepen collaboration while delivering timely justice and good governance for the citizens of Benue State.
