About 1,163 children of Internally Displaced Persons have been enrolled into primary school on the third and final day of Governor Babagana Zulum’s humanitarian trip to Damasak, on the shores of Lake Chad.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Isa Gusau said, the pupils who hailed from Guzamala and Abadam Local Government Areas in northern Borno, had been out of school since the displacement of their parents and guardians by Boko Haram.
Zulum appealed to the parents to allow their children to enroll in schools.
He noted that where functional schools are provided by the government, social welfare assistance will be restricted to parents who allowed their children and wards to attend the schools.
The governor also promised government’s support secondary school students in Damasak so as to help them actualize their dreams.

Zulum had traveled to Damasak on Saturday morning, the day he launched the distribution of water pumps, fertilizer, seeds, chemicals, and five thousand Naira cash to each of the 1,200 irrigation farmers who were embarking on food cultivation this dry season.
The governor had also supervised the distribution of food to 10,000 internally displaced families as part of interventions, before they can generate livelihoods for themselves in Damasak.
Damasak, the headquarters of the Mobbar Local Government Area in northern Borno, was a former stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents.
