We have reports that a police patrol helicopter has been shot by terrorists in Kuduru village of Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria.
The helicopter which was on surveillance operations in the area was attacked on Wednesday at about 11.20am.
AIT sources from the Nigeria security community say the incident left the pilot and co-pilot injured and they are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kaduna.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police have confirmed reports that one of its helicopter has been attacked by terrorists on Wednesday in Birnin Gwari Kaduna state.
In the statement signed by the Force PRO Frank Mba, the police say during an operation that killed over 250 members of the Ansaru terror group, the Bell helicopter, which provided aerial and intelligence cover for the ground troops came under attack from the bandits using sophisticated anti-aircraft rifles and GPMG.
The statement further explained that the pilot and the co-pilot who demonstrated uncommon courage and expertise, successfully landed the aircraft at the Air Force Base, Kaduna without further incident.
The crew was thereafter evacuated for medical treatment.
Both officers who sustained non-life threatening injuries are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
The Police helicopter has since been flown out of the Kaduna Air Force Base by Police Pilots en-route to Abuja.
