Nigerian Afrobeat stars, Burna Boy and Wizkid have both won their first ever Grammy awards.
Burna Boy whose real name is Damini Ogulu, won the Best Global Music Album category with his album “Twice as Tall”. Wizkid won the Best Music Video for the collaborative effort with American music diva Beyoncé in her song Brown Skin Girl, a soundtrack in the Disney inspired Lion King
Burna Boy, the self acclaimed African giant was nominated in the Best Global Music Category alongside Tuareg Desert Rock group Tinariwen, NYC afrobeat outfit Antibalas, Brazilian-American Bebel Gilberto, and British-Indian sitar player Anoushka Shankar.
He won the Award with his critically acclaimed “Twice As Tall” album which was described by the Grammys as “a masterclass that have made The Nigerian artiste an international musical force”.

Reacting to the win, the Port Harcourt born artiste thanked the African continent for their support thus far.
This was Burna Boy’s second Grammy nomination after losing to the iconic Angelique Kidjo during the last ceremony in 2020.
