In a bid to prevent the outbreak of Covid-19 and other dangerous diseases in Calabar Custodial Center, the state government has set up a Treatment Center at the prison facility.
The Chairman of COVID-19 Taskforce Response Team, Dr. Betta Edu made this known when she visited the center in Calabar, following a request from the Prison Authority.
Edu said the state government has donated some equipment and has commenced sample taking at the treatment ward from inmates suspected to have symptoms of Covid-19.

The Chairman while assuring that the gesture will be extended to other custodian centers in the state said the government will do everything to make Cross River citizens healthier, irrespective of their status and conditions.
The Comptroller of Prisons in Cross River State, Yakubu Dankaro commended the state government for its swift response and timely donation of items for the immediate set up of the center in the correctional facility.
The Calabar Correctional Center, located in Afokang in Calabar South Local Government, according to the Comptroller, currently has a total of 490 inmates.
