The Osun state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has launched its Agro Rangers Unit to curb incessant attacks on farmers and their farmland by marauders and to sustain food security.
The Agro Rangers Units is the initiative of the Federal Government designed to provide protection for agro-allied investments in Nigeria, fight cattle rustlers, combat kidnapping and mediate between herdsmen and crop farmers to maintain peace.
The agro rangers are said to have undergone a fiv- month training programme at the corps’ training school in Katsina state to equip them for the task.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Osun State Command, Adeyinka Oguntuwase says the number of farmers going to their respective farmlands has reduced drastically because of the frequent attacks by the marauders.
While launching the Unit, the Osun State Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, assure the Corps of the commitment of the state government to work with the Agro Ranger Unit in order to curb incessant attacks on the farmlands.
The launch was witnessed by the heads of other security agencies in the state.
