The Coalition of Active Young Citizens, a civil society organization, has called on the Federal Government, to establish structures that will protect the lives and property of Nigerians in the Diaspora.

In a statement signed by the Convener of the group, Victor Terhemba and made available to ait.live, over the alleged maltreatment of Nigerians living abroad, the group is worried about the inhumane treatment meted on Nigerians which is becoming more pronounced and frustrating.

Recalling the three Nigerians allegedly barred from entering the Cape Verde recently without any justifiable reason, the group, says the action violates the ECOWAS Treaty, that established the right of free movement of persons and residence.

The CSO added that the seeming lack of interest by the Federal government on the matter, would set a negative precedent where there are no consequences for treating Nigerians in undignified manners by other countries.

The group, therefore, asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to expressly state clearly and publicly, the position of the Federal Government on the treatment of Nigerian citizens abroad, especially in the West Africa region.
