Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has directed the Nigerian Army to pay the sum of 100, 000 Naira to each of the applicants of the Rivers State Neighborhood Safety Corps.
The payment is a compensation for the assault metes out on the applicants during the invasion of their training camp at Nonwa in Tai Local Government Area of the state in November 2018.
The proposed neighborhood safety corps was designed by the Rivers State Government to beef up security in various localities around the state by the Nigerian Army on November 29, 2018.
The invasion, however, stalled the recruitment process and the formal establishment of the security outfit.
With the recent Judgement delivered by the State High Court, which described the invasion as an affront on not just the applicants but also on the law, the applicants described the outcome as Judgement well deserved.
Reacting to the Judgement, the Counsel to the Nigerian Army, Uchemba Ngeleoka, told reporters that he would consult with his clients to know their next line of action.
