Cross River State Government has commenced the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC approved GeneXpert PCR Covid-19 Testing at the Lawrence Henshaw Memorial Hospital Calabar following the completion of training and approval by the Federal Ministry of Health.
Speaking during at the Centre, the State Commissioner for Health and Chairman State Covid-19 Response Task Force, Dr Betta Edu said already samples of suspected cases who came forward have been collected.
The Commissioner called on the people of Cross River State with symptoms of Covid-19 to come forward to the Hospital for testing, especially those who just came into the State following the lifting of the ban on inter-state movement by the Federal Government.

The GeneXpert and PCR Machines according to the Commissioner have intensity and capacity to confirm 8 test sample results from the GeneXpert machine and 96 test sample results from the PCR machine every 45 minutes in an accelerated speed that could enable the State record about 500 tests per day.
