In a bid to prevent Lassa Fever outbreak in Cross River State, the authorities have started intensive surveillance and screening in its communities sharing borders with Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom States.
The State Government has also set up comitteee to commence advocacy in the 18 local government areas of the State.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu stated this during an awarenesses campaign in Yakurr and Abi Local Government Areas which share boundaries with Ebonyi State.

Edu who Spoke shortly after she led the health team to visit the paramount ruler of Yakurr, emphasised that there is no confirmed case of Lassa Fever in the State. She however reiterated the readiness of the health team with the collaboration of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency to step up the prevention strategy.
On his part, the Obol lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, Obol Ofem Ubana-Eteng, said his village heads will step up the advocacy in the rural communities on the causes and symptoms of the deadly disease.
