Workers under the Joint Action Committee on Tertiary Institution, JACTI, have staged a protest at the office of the Cross River state governor and the state House of Assembly to demand reinstatement and payment of the September and October salaries of over one thousand workers disengaged by the state.
Members of the Union led by its spokesperson, Emmanuel Enyiegor called on the state Governor Prof. Ben Ayade and the Speaker of the House of Assembly to look into the matter before it degenerates into a strike.
Some workers who were employed by the state government in 2015 according to the union were removed from the government’s payroll from September 2019, in line with the Government’s regularisation policy.
Both the speaker and permanent secretary in the governor’s office promised to look into the matter.
The protesting Workers are Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Science Teachers Association among Others.
