The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to suspend entry of direct flight services from all corona virus affected countries following the first confirmed case in Lagos state.
The opposition political group has also advised the federal government to set up special 14 days quarantine centres for persons visiting Nigeria from coronavirus affected countries.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, the CUPP says these steps are necessary in order to avoid more infected persons slipping through the ports into the country.
The coalition says the index case of the Italian citizen has faulted the widely publicised claims by the government that screening machines have been installed in major international entry points with specialists to man them.
It has warned the Buhari administration that mismanagement of the coronavirus outbreak will lead to mass deaths of innocent citizens, worse than the insecurity currently ravaging the country.
The CUPP says it is clear that the government was ill-prepared and had failed to activate serious preemptive health and safety protocols for the viral outbreak.
The opposition political group also called on Nigerians to avoid panic but step up their personal hygiene to protect themselves from the virus.
