As the country grapples with the nagging issue of youth unemployment, the Government of Ebonyi State has taken the path of skills acquisition as alternative solution to the challenge.
This commitment by the state government was demonstrated with the establishment of a Vocational Institute where the young ones can acquire sellable skills.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s unemployment rate reached a record 23.1 per cent in 2019.
The situation is expected to grow worse this year, with the advent of the global pandemic, as the number of unemployed persons is set to increase at a faster pace.
The idea behind this vocational skills acquisition centre built and equipped by Governor Dave Umahi’ government is to ensure that the youths in state are not hard hit by the unemployment scourge.
Aside the vocational project, the Ebonyi government has other empowerment programmes for the people of the state.
With the Umahi led government proving its mettle in the area of infrastructure, the people of Ebonyi State now want more attention shifted to human capital development.
