Edo State Government has made a pronouncement of a cash gift of two hundred and fifty thousand Naira as reward for each gold medal won by Team Edo athletes, at the recently concluded Twentieth Edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged, Edo 2020.
It was made by Governor Godwin Obaseki at a reception held for the team at the Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The Twentieth National Sports Festival tagged, Edo 2020, held from April 2 to 14, 2021.
Team Edo emerged second, behind Delta State, who topped the medals table.
To reward hard work, the state government has organised a reception for the athletes.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, commended the athletes’ resilience, determination and team spirit.
Governor Godwin Obaseki lauded the athletes for their various outstanding performances, urging them to keep their eyes on the ball, ahead of Delta 2022.
He also announced cash prizes for the gold, silver and bronze medalists.
The high point of the ceremony, was the presentation of an African Cast Bronze Sculpture of a warrior, astride a horse, to the Governor, by Team Edo, for his vision and innovative leadership, which saw the revival of full sporting activities in the state.
