Some indigenes of Edo State resident in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have condemned the crisis rocking the State House of Assembly.
The group under the umbrella of Obaseki Project 2020, stated this as it reached a concensus to endorse Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shuiabu for a second term.
The group accused a former Governor of the State and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adam Oshiomole of orchestrating the crisis in the State House of Assembly.
It further described the purported invasion of the Assembly complex by the Police and the alleged attempt by the aggrieved APC lawmakers to convene the Assembly as “the antics of a drowning man”, who the group says will stop at nothing to destabilize the peace in the state ahead of Governorship election on the 19th of September.
One of the group’s leaderss, Peter Dokpesi raised the first motion for the endorsement of Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shuiabu, and was his motion was supported b Solomon Akaya and Efosa Imasuen
Speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Nathaniel Momoh said the endorsement was based purely on the conviction that Obakesi has delivered creditably in his first term, and will do even more if voted again.
“Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shuiabu are a winning team and nobody in modern politics change a winning team”, he said.
Momoh added that his group which comprises more than 6000 sons and daughters of Edo State in Abuja will move in massively to campaign and mobilize support for the re-election bid of Governor Obaseki and Shuaibu.
The Chief Coordinator, FCT Obaseki Project 2020 and Chairman PDP Edo Leaders Forum FCT , Premier Bello, said the election victory of Godwin Obaseki is already settled in the hearts of the people who he said are massively behind him.
He said the endorsement was merely to affirm the wishes of the people which will be translated into overwhelming votes at the polls in September.
On the crisis in the State Assembly, Bello said it was the only way left for Oshiomhole and his APC supporters to express their frustration and mourn their eminent defeat at the polls; describing the entire episode as “the last kick of a dying horse”.
