At least 84 new cases of Lassa Fever have been reported in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria.
The State Epidemiologist, Steven Fagbemi, made this known during a meeting with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Local Government Chairmen from Ondo North and Central Senatorial Districts.
Fagbemi said 16 of the patients have died from the disease since their undetected cases reached advanced stage before they were brought to the hospital.

He added that 47 patients currently on admission were responding to treatment, while 21 others had already been treated and discharged.
Also speaking, an official of the Center for Disease Control, Yahaya Disu, explained that the Lassa Fever cases were recorded in Owo, Akoko South West, Akure South, and Ondo West Local Government Areas.
Meanwhile, Governor Akeredolu commiserated with families of victims of the outbreak assuring that the government is doing everything possible to address the situation
The Governor further charged Local Government Chairmen and traditional rulers of the affected communities to embark on awareness campaign against the deadly disease.
