A group of Senior Nigerian Citizens, The Eminent Elders Forum wants b the National Assembly to adopt the 1963 constitution in place of the 1999 Constitution presently used, arguing that the country is currently running a unitary system of government and not Federalism.

The Coordinator of the Forum, Professor Echefuna Onyeadi and members of the forum made their feelings known when they paid a visit to the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo Agege who is also the senate committee chairman on constitution amendments.

They said all attempts at getting the right constitution for Nigeria after 1963, have fallen short of expectation.

The Deputy Senate President told the visiting group that its request is beyond the jurisdiction of the National Assembly, adding that lawmakers can only amend the document in piecemeal.
