Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika says the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu in South-East Nigeria will be ready for use before this year’s Easter celebration.
The Minister stated this during his inspection visit to ascertain the level of work by the contractor handling the project.
The Minister accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Aviation and the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Aviation among others noted that the government is aware of the strategic role of the Airport to the people of the South East and the nation’s economy at large.

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi represented by the Deputy Governor, Cecelia Ezeilo commended the Minister for the progress of work and assured him of the full support of the state government in actualising the project.
It would be recalled that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN had on August 24, 2019 announced the closure of the Airport, which is the only international airport in the South-East region, for the construction of the runway.
