The Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu in South East Nigeria is set to reopen on August 30, 2020 as the runway reconstruction is 95% completed.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika made this known after an emergency inspection tour of the on-going reconstruction work on the runway. He stated that the perimeter fence of the airport had been constructed and the airfield lightning fixed.
The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic had halted work on the runway in March after the construction project commenced last year .

The Minister met with the contractor, officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN as well as Enugu State Government and assured that 30th August is feasible to reopen the airport to flight operations because there is less work left to be done.
