The on-going construction work at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, South-East Nigeria, is now at an advanced stage of completion.
The contractor handling the project assures that the Airport will be ready for operations before the end of this year. The construction work involves total reconstruction of the runway and other safety facilities.
The contractor had earlier assured about the delivery of the project by April this year but had to suspend work following the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
The contractor who blamed the rainy season as a major challenge for the slow pace of work is, however, optimistic that the project will be completed in no distance time.

Interacting with the contractor during his recent visit to the Airport to assess the level of work done, the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Aviation, Nnolim Nnaji, expressed worry that the project may not be ready as expected.
Nnaji, who was accompanied by the Deputy House Minority Leader and officials of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority assured Nigerians that the Airport will be among the best in the country after the reconstruction work.
