The Third Mainland Bridge will be finally reopened to traffic at midnight on Saturday, February 27, 2021. The federal comptroller of works in Lagos state, Popoola Olukayode confirmed this to ait.live in an interview.

He however said both inbound and outbound lanes would be shut to traffic on the midnight of Friday, February 26 to allow the contractors move the equipment used for rehabilitation and maintenance and to put final touches to the bridge including lane markings and fixing of potholes.

Popoola added that under-water repairs which would start after the full reopening of the bridge would not affect traffic.

The Federal Government had on July 24, 2020, announced the partial shutdown of the Third Mainland Bridge for a period of 6 months for another round of rehabilitation works.

This was extended by an extra one month due to disruption caused by the #EndSARS protests last year, and the full re-opening date was moved to February 15, 2021.

The Federal Government later announced that the bridge would no longer be opened on February 15 as the casting of the last expansion joint was to commence before the final reopening of the bridge.
