Zamfara State government has been urged to work with the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to protect people in areas prone to the perennial flooding in the state.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Saadiya Faruk made the call while listing local governments that are risk areas in the state.
She says rainfall predictions and outlook for this year by the Nigerian Metrological Services Agency says Tsafe, Birning Magaji and Gusau Local Governments Areas of Zamfara State have been identified as the risk areas for perennial flooding.
According to her, the palpable areas are Bakura, Maradun, Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Governments Areas.
The Minister, therefore, wants the Zamfara State government to collaborate with the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to take proactive measures to mitigate flooding in the state.
She said that this could be done through sensitizing and enlightening the residents, especially those living within the flood alert areas.
The minister was in Zamfara State to flag off the distribution of Covid-19 palliatives by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
She also used the occasion to draw the attention of the Zamfara State government and the people, to the flood alert.
