The federal government has urged Nigerians to ignite their inherent spirit of volunteerism to support and promote government development efforts.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday ahead of the 2020 International Volunteer Day celebration, the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, said the national policy on inclusive volunteerism will soon be adopted by the government to expand the frontiers of volunteerism in Nigeria.
Mustapha said this year’s event will be celebrated at Angwasanwaya village in Lugbe area of the FCT with series of activities already lined up to observe the day.
The International Volunteer Day is celebrated on the 5th of December every year in line with the 1985 United Nations General Assembly resolution to celebrate the power and potentials of volunteerism by member nations.

The day is also celebrated to raise awareness and gain understanding of the contributions volunteers make to their communities.
The theme of this year’s International Volunteer Day is “Together We can Through Volunteering”; bring to the front burner the important role played by volunteers by being at the forefront of medical, community, and societal responses as the COVID 19 pandemic ravages the world.
