President Muhammadu Buhari has formally approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The decision is to allow for “unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws”.
This was made known in a statement issued by Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations in the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Dr. Umar Gwandu, on Friday
According to the statement, “President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards”.
Magu is being grilled by a Presidential probe panel over his allegations of mismanagement of assets recovered by the anti-graft agency.
He has been held at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja since his arrest on Monday and has been reporting daily to answer questions at the panel hearing.
His lawyers have yet to secure his bail.
