The Federal Government has established a zonal research centre in the North-East for the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis and Onchocerciasis Research.
The Centre was unveiled by the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu who says it was part of efforts to ensure food security through the provision new methods in livestock farming.
The inauguration of the Centre opens another chapter in research on livestock management in the country and especially the North East that accounts for about the highest number of cattle in the country. It is therefore important for the pastoral farmers in Gombe and other states in the North-East geo-political zone.

For the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Centre would provide jobs for the youth through agro-extension.
The State Governments in the North-East FG that would remain the beneficiaries of the Centre promise they would support its activities.
