Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Tayo Alasoadura says almost N3 trillion has been expended in the country’s oil-rich region in recent times without any tangible project to show for it.
The Minister stated this while on a courtesy call to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in Benin City, the state capital.
The Minister who is in Edo State to inspect projects under his Ministry calls for synergy with states on projects to avoid duplication of efforts and to ensure that they are functional when completed.
Going forward, Alasoadura denounced the high level of corruption that previously trailed interventions in the region, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The Minister commended President Muhammadu Buhari for stepping in to ensure that the right things are done in the NDDC.
Governor Obaseki expressed hope that the interventionist agency is being repositioned to meet the yearning and aspirations of the people.
He appealed to the Minister to help expedite action on the Benin-Abraka road. Construction has commenced but NDDC is yet to fulfil its own end of the bargain.
